it’s a sunshine day

5 November 2007

Nov 5 Monday
26 days until the Big Race!

Woke up today fresh faced, and with a spring in my step that I haven’t had in so long I’d forgotten how it feels.
I actually had a song playing in my mind. (I’d forgotten that was happening almost daily in August, back when I was so optimistic and life was new.) Today–for no reason I can discern other than that I needed to–I woke up with “Sunshine Day” in my head at 6:30. Read in Eat Pray Love until 7:15, and now plan to go running, with renewed optimism that I don’t have to repeat negative history. Her writings on moving on from lost love might be exactly what I needed to read this morning. So I shall craft myself the best get-happy playlist ever, and go run in the standard time morning sunlight, and not look back any more.

Think I’ll go for a walk outside now, summer sun’s callin’ my name…i hear ya now…

If this exultant morning is God’s way of reminding me that mental health is fragile and precious, and that every morning I wake up with it I should be grateful—and kiss the ground like George Bailey, then I will take that lesson and run with it—literally.
And run from anything that brings about feelings of discontent.

Ran 30, walk 10
Today’s iMix: pre-made playlist o’ [can’t think of a word here] awesomeness??
Sunshine Day—The Brady Bunch
Getting Over—Pico vs Island Trees
Gone—Ben Folds
Hit ‘em up style—Blu Cantrell
Hot For Teacher—Van Halen
Kate—Ben Folds
Underdog—Spoon
I Will Survive—Cake
Real Love—Mary J Blige
I think besides my sense of smell being heightened during a run, so is my hearing. I can understand lyrics that are muffled in my non-running ears. Fun side effect.

I guess I shouldn’t get hung up on the time SO much. Because that thirty was a real challenge. Maybe I just need to get back into it, and work up to a longer run later in the week. I can’t do an hour every day after all, not yet anyway. Is it insane to try for 90 minutes this week?!

I think the time change messed with me a little. I was able to get up at 6:30 with little effort, but I should’ve gone running sooner. Because to my BODY it was already 8:00 when I got started…
sure…blame your natural rhythms for your poor performance… typical…
