very interesting…

Looking around on Amazon.com, and a CD cover link at the bottom of the page caught my eye. It was part of their “top mp3 sales of the day” listing, and the first one listed was Hallelujah by Vitamin String Quartet, so I googled it, and immediately recognized it from last night’s finale of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.

True or false: I watched, and had a fully-connected emotional experience with, this finale without having watched a single episode this summer.
TRUE!

I’d forgotten how bomb-ass some of the music is.
Not to mention the delightful underdog stories.
And the way it makes me imagine I can dance like I could when I was 18.

Anyway, what’s interesting is that though it’s only ranked #340 (which i suppose out of ALL amazon’s mp3s isn’t so bad), so it might never surpass Miley Cyrus or that “I kissed a girl” song (which i like more than i’d like to admit), reality TV put this song in the path of millions of shoppers today. Strange, huh?

In other news, tonight I finished a book that I’ve been whittling away at since early last spring, and I can easily say it is one of the funniest, smartest books I have ever read. The Areas of My Expertise by John Hodgman (also known as PC) had me laughing out loud BY MYSELF over and over again. Tonight in fact I was laughing to the point of gasping for air, making my cat concerned for my personal welfare. It’s bizarre and brilliant. If you read the section on Hobos alone (that’s right. Hobos.) you’ll get your $14.00 worth.

But it’s not the kind of book I can just quote from to prove my point. You’ll have to trust me. Read it.

And then thank me.
